Research/Areas of Interest
Over 400,000 people contract Lyme disease in the United States annually. Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. My thesis project will utilize B. burgdorferi’s limited metabolic capabilities to develop new narrow spectrum antibiotics in the treatment of Lyme disease. I also aim to understand how B. burgdorferi’s metabolic requirements change in its different hosts.
