MS in Pharmacology & Drug Development
The Master of Science in Pharmacology & Drug Development (PDD) is a two-year full-time graduate degree program designed for candidates who wish to obtain additional training that will enhance their professional and career options in the pharmaceutical industry, and are not yet ready to seek the intensive training required for a PhD.
Faculty and Research
Our faculty are deeply experienced in training students and provide a range of opportunities for rotations and thesis work.
The faculty is drawn from the departments of Developmental, Molecular & Chemical Biology, Immunology, Medicine, Medical Education, Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine. Other faculty are based at the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Engineering, the School of Dental Medicine, the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Institute on Aging.
Admissions
Candidates seeking admission to the Pharmacology and Drug Development MS Program apply to the Tufts Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences using the online application.
Students interested in applying must have completed a baccalaureate degree and are encouraged to have taken a college level class in biology.
Curriculum
Our training includes required and elective didactic coursework, with a focus on basic and clinical pharmacology as it relates to drug development; acquisition of proficiency in contemporary laboratory research methodology and problem-solving approaches; and mentored biomedical research, leading to a thesis of publishable quality.
Students conduct two laboratory rotations during their first year to learn techniques and explore possible laboratories in which to conduct their research.
The program begins with matriculation in September and can be completed in just under two years with graduation in May.
