Basic Science MS Programs

GSBS offers two MS programs in the Basic Science Division of the school,  the MS in Pharmacology and Drug Development and the MS in Biomedical Research. Both provide exposure to laboratory research that forms the basis of an MS thesis.

These programs begin in September and finish in May of the second year.

MS in Biomedical Research

This is a laboratory-based research intensive program leading to an MS degree in one of four disciplines:

  • Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology
  • Immunology
  • Molecular Microbiology
  • Neuroscience

The program provides excellent preparation for careers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry and also is an excellent way for students to prepare for advanced PhD training in the biomedical sciences. The program emphasizes individually tailored mentoring geared to match each student's interests.

MS in Pharmacology & Drug Development

The MS in Pharmacology & Drug Development program (PDD) is a two-year program designed for candidates who hold a baccalaureate degree and wish to obtain additional training in pharmacology that will enhance their professional and career options, but who do not seek the intensive training required for a PhD.

A strong combination of didactic study coupled with bench research allows trainees to become well-versed in state-of-the-art approaches. Introductions to human subjects research and regulatory affairs are also provided.

Graduates of this program often pursue careers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Some graduates also pursue additional training at the doctoral level.
