Selection Criteria

The PDD Admissions Committee reviews applications on a rolling basis (ie, applications are reviewed as they are received). Applicants are encouraged to submit all required materials as early as possible. Applications that are completed after the deadline will be considered by the Admissions Committee if positions remain available.

Admissions decisions are based on:

  • Academic background
  • Relevant research experience
  • Responses to application personal statement

Personal Statement Essay Prompt: In a 1-2 page personal statement, demonstrate your academic motivation for the PDD program and describe your background and perspective that will allow you to contribute to the Tufts GSBS community. If you have research experience, please ensure to highlight this in your statement.

Interview

Once an application has been reviewed, the PDD Program Director and Admissions Director schedule a brief (20-30 minutes) virtual interview with the candidate. The interviews provide an opportunity for the faculty to get to know the candidate and for the candidate to get their questions about the program fully answered. After the call, the candidate will be connected with a current student in the program. Within a couple weeks of the interview, the PDD Admissions Committee will make an admissions decision.

Eligibility

The PDD application is open to both domestic and international applicants. Applicants must have completed their bachelor’s degree, preferably in the sciences, before beginning graduate school. It is recommended that prospective applicants complete a minimum of one course of college-level biology.
