GABA type A receptors mediate inhibition in the brain and are functionally regulated via post-translational modifications. Phosphorylation of different subunits has been shown to mediate trafficking and targeting of receptors to different synapses. I am investigating the regulation of GABAAR accumulation and stability in inhibitory synapses through kinase activity, and how disrupted inhibition can contribute to pathology such as epilepsy and mood disorders.
