Herpesviruses are unique to enveloped viruses as they spread their entry functions across several proteins, some of which undergo drastic conformational changes which enable fusion. My project surrounds characterizing the structure of the fusogen, gB, from various herpesviruses in pre- and post-fusion conformations, as well as characterizing interactions and structures of gB complexed with the other viral proteins involved in entry.
