Study & Recreation Spaces
Having places to study that are inviting and welcoming as well as places to relax and exercise help make graduate school a positive experience. Our urban campus has put a priority on insuring our students have a well-rounded experience during their time at GSBS.
The Hirsh Library and Food 4 Thought Cafe and the Tauber Fitness Center in the Medical Education Building play an important role in student life as do our classrooms, auditoriums and green space in the Jaharis Courtyard..
Explore these areas more fully below.
Tauber Fitness Center
Located in the basement of the Medical Education Building, the Tauber Fitness Center is a 2,500 square foot space that is free for all students. In addition to exercise equipment, there is a yoga and dance studio. Exercise is a great way to maintain a good life/work balance and all students are encouraged to take advantage of the facility.
Jaharis Courtyard and Lounge
Having some green space in the middle of an urban environment provides a welcoming atmosphere. The Jaharis Courtyard provides a grassy area as well as tables for dining or study. The adjacent indoor lounge provides tables for eating or studying.
Many special events take advantage of the Courtyard during the warmer weather.
In the spring, the GSBS Graduation Reception is typically held in the Jaharis Courtyard as is the welcome party for new students held early in September.
Food 4 Thought Cafe & Hirsh Library Lounge
One area that many students use in the Hirsh Library is the lounge and the Food 4 Thought Cafe. The Cafe is open Monday through Friday from 7 am to 5 pm and serves made-to-order sandwiches, salads, hot entrees, espresso drinks and smoothies. You can even order ahead online. Students can eat in the lounge or just relax with friends.
Hirsh Health Sciences Library
The Hirsh Library is on the fourth through seventh floors of the Medical Education Building. There are collaborative spaces, quiet areas, two computer labs, study rooms and meeting areas. A wide range of journals and books are available, many of which can be accessed online.
Auditoriums & Classrooms
Several large auditoriums can be found across the campus. The Beharkis Auditorium in the Jaharis Building, the DeBlois Auditorium in the Medical Education Building and the Posner Auditorium in Posner Hall are used for special lectures and events. Most of our students hold the public seminar that accompanies the thesis defense in one of these spaces. Posner Auditorium is one example, shown here.
All of our buildings have smaller classrooms and lounges that are located in proximity to our labs. Many graduate classes, seminars, journal clubs and social events are held in these spaces.
