GSBS Launches New Master’s in Biomedical Management
In September of 2021, GSBS will welcome the inaugural class of the MS in Biomedical Management (BiomM) program to the Health Sciences Campus. BiomM is a two-year, in-person program that leverages GSBS’s academic strength to offer outstanding training in biomedical sciences and pharmacology, combined with additional courses in management and business offered by the Gordon Institute’s Entrepreneurship Center at the Tufts School of Engineering.
“We’re looking for someone who has a bachelor’s degree in the sciences, but might not have significant lab experience,” said Phil Hinds, the program’s Director. “They will have the opportunity to spend a year working in the lab, so even if they don’t start with that background, they’ll have it by the time they graduate.”
In addition to hands-on research experience, BiomM graduates will study management, business, and project management. “We’re looking for people with a passion for both science and business,” said Dan Jay, Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the program’s Internship Coordinator.
Just as BiomM students gain hands-on experience in the lab, a six-month internship placement at one of Boston’s many biotech or pharma companies will give them hands-on experience in management, business, and entrepreneurship. “Our graduates will have a unique skill set, tailored for entry-level managerial positions in a lab environment,” said Dean Jay.
Dr. Hinds agreed. “The combination of rigorous scientific training and firsthand experience with the business of research is something special,” he said. “BiomM alumni will understand what it takes to succeed – and to lead – in industry.”
Prospective students interested in BiomM should fill out the inquiry form for more information.
