GSBS Congratulates Katya Heldwein - Pew Innovator Award Recipient
Katya Heldwein, PhD, Massachusetts Division of the American Cancer Society Endowed Professor of Molecular Biology, and a Pew Scholar recipient in 2007 has been chosen as a Pew Innovation Fund Investigator. The Pew Innovation Fund supports cutting edge research of former Pew Scholars who work in teams. Dr. Heldwein and Daniela Nicastro, PhD, from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center are one of six teams selected for this honor.
Dr. Heldwein is a member and director of the GSBS Molecular Microbiology graduate program and is also a member of the CMDB program.
Drs. Heldwein and Dicastro will use their award to work on assembly and trafficking of herpesviruses, viruses that cause many common diseases that can become serious and life threatening in some individuals.
