Dean's Message - December 9, 2019

Our school has a new name. Learn more about this important decision.

President Monaco and Trustees Chair Peter Dolan announced last Thursday that the university will remove the Sackler name from our graduate school among other named entities on our campus. This was a complex decision and I applaud the wisdom and courage that our leadership showed to be the first university to do this. I believe that they did so because it aligns with our values and mission as a student-focused research university and I heartily support their decision. In addition, I appreciate that the university has elected to not erase the past, but to use this teaching tool to explain and educate and that they will establish a fund to support addiction research prevention and treatment.

As we begin our school’s 40th anniversary year, I hope you will join me in moving forward with pride and honor as the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. May we continue to grow in our commitment to research excellence, community values and access to career exploration as the best training for our students to contribute to the advances in biomedical science in the coming years.
