Dean's Message - April 8, 2024

April brings exciting city-wide events and the wrap-up of admissions season

Dear GSBS Community,

Happy April! Our eventful month started with April Fool’s Day and continues with a total eclipse, Tax Day, Patriot’s Day and the Boston Marathon.

For many of you, thoughts are also turning to Commencement. Our graduating students have submitted their graduation paperwork, and those who are close to graduation in August still have a chance to participate in Commencement if they can complete the necessary requirements in the next few weeks. We look forward to celebrating our graduates and soon to be graduates in May.

Admissions season for the PhD students and MD/PhD students is wrapping up, with students expected to commit to enrolling soon, while recruitment for our Master’s programs and for our PREP program is ongoing. Enrollment in our NIH funded and recently renewed summer pathway program, Building Diversity in Biomedical Sciences, directed by Jamie Maguire, is complete and we are expecting a group of 17. We look forward to having the incoming students join us.

The GSBS-Alumni networking reception, held on March 21, was a phenomenal event. Prominent alumni keynote speakers Jennifer Nwankwo GBS16 and Frank Slack GBS93 shared their secrets for success in starting a company and succeeding in academia, respectively. Thanks to all the alumni and students who participated to make it a thoroughly enjoyable session for all who attended.
