Dean's Message - April 25, 2022

More in person events are coming and we are so pleased to see them back again!

Dear GSBS community:

With the careful reduction of COVID restrictions at Tufts and in our communities, I am hopeful that, after 2 years of limited in-person interactions, we are beginning to see a “new normal”. GSBS has hosted several in-person events: our Revisit Day for admitted PhD students; hybrid thesis defenses and celebrations; Friday Teas for several programs; and an off-site program retreat for Genetics and Neuroscience at the Jackson Laboratories in Bar Harbor. It has been wonderful to see students and faculty interacting at poster sessions, chatting at receptions, and sitting together over a meal. We have more in-person events coming up: the CMDB retreat in mid-May, the GSBS Graduation and Awards reception on May 20 and, of course, our first in-person Commencement in three years on May 22.

Social interaction is important to scientific and career success, and it is wonderful to see our community gathering in-person once again. Over the last two years, all communities have found it challenging to interact. As we emerge from this time of relative isolation, we should be conscious of how to be a community. Being kind and respectful to one other permits scientific dialog and creates a welcoming, inclusive community. I look forward to reconnecting with you all around campus and at our upcoming events.

Best,

Dan Jay, Dean
