What is the ultimate goal of your research?

The ultimate goal of my research is two-fold. I hope to identify mechanisms by which healthy neuronal networks are transformed to generate epilepsy. I am specifically interested in the role that astrocytes play in shaping network function and connectivity following injury and insult. Second, I am interested in developing novel imaging approaches to visualize brain activity and metabolism.

What excites you about your research?

I am intensely excited by the opportunity to reduce or eliminate the behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and societal impacts of epilepsy. I’m also extremely excited to utilize molecular tools to understand and control network function. Lastly, understanding the diversity, complexity, and adaptability of glial cells gets me excited to be in the lab on a daily basis.

What do you like best about GSBS students?

They are incredibly hard working, intelligent, and inquisitive. They represent the best of what young scientists should be.

What qualities distinguish GSBS from other graduate schools?

I think that the GSBS has a unique ability to help each student find their research niche where their talents and interests will be maximized.

What do you do to relax?

I enjoy playing guitar, hanging out with my family and friends, BBQing, and watching Jersey Shore.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

Wings Over Brookline is a guilty pleasure but my favorite restaurant overall is Publik House.
