Research Laboratories and Facilities
Research Laboratories
GSBS students studying on the Boston campus have access to a research facilities located in two main research buildings, the Biomedical Research and Public Health Building (BRPH) and the Jaharis Family Center for Biomedical and Nutrition Research (Jaharis).
Additional faculty have laboratories at Tufts Medical Center and the Jean Mayer USDA Research Center on Aging. Over 100 GSBS faculty conduct research on the Health Science Campus.
Take a virtual tour below of our open plan laboratories where our students conduct their research. This layout facilitates collaboration and sharing of ideas.
Note that the labs shown below are examples and their layout is similar to that of most of our research laboratories.
The Pilar Alcaide Lab
Pilar Alcaide, PhD is the Director of our Immunology PhD program. She is also a member of our Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology PhD program and the MS in Biomedical Research program.
Her laboratory is located on the fifth floor of Jaharis, where she studies inflammation in the context of cardiac and vascular pathophysiology.
The Chris Dulla & Jamie Maguire Labs
Chris Dulla, PhD and Jamie Maguire, PhD have laboratory space on the second floor of the South Cove wing of the BRPH.
Dr. Dulla participates in the Neuroscience and Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology PhD programs and in the MS in Pharmacology & Drug Development and Biomedical Research programs. His group focuses on traumatic brain injury, epilepsy and the role of glutamate in brain development.
Learn about Dr Dulla's research.
Dr. Maguire participates in the Neuroscience PhD program and in the MS programs in Pharmacology & Drug Development and Biomedical Research. She is also the Program Director of our undergraduate summer research program, Building Diversity in Biomedical Sciences (BDBS). Her group focuses on the mechanisms by which the brain transitions from pathological and healthy states in the setting of stress, drug and alcohol abuse and other settings.
The Yongjie Yang Lab
Yongjie Yang, PhD has laboratory space on the seventh floor Arnold wing of the BRPH. He participates in the Neuroscience and Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology PhD programs and in the MS programs in Pharmacology & Drug Development and Biomedical Research.
His group focuses on the normal mechanisms governing astrocyte function and the way these mechanisms are altered in neurological disorders.
Research Facilities
Our students have access to state-of-the art equipment in their laboratories and in a wide range of core facilities available on the Health Science Campus and our other campuses. In many cases, training in the use of the instruments, interpretation of the data obtained and in some cases, advice on experimental design is offered by the core facilities.
Research cores on the Health Science campus that are often used by our students include:
