Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology Admissions

Application Process

Students seeking admission to the PhD in Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology (GMCB) program apply through the Tufts Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) and select GMCB as their program of interest. Applicants interested in the Mammalian Genetics@JAX must apply yo that program directly.

Prospective GMCB applicants are evaluated holistically, with consideration given to academic performance, three letters of recommendation, and responses to the required short essays. While prior research experience is strongly valued and common among successful candidates, it is not required for admission. Likewise, although an undergraduate major in the life or biological sciences provides a solid foundation, it is recommended rather than required; we welcome applicants from a variety of academic backgrounds who can demonstrate scientific aptitude and a clear interest in biomedical research.
