Research/Areas of Interest
For my second research rotation, I utilized an opsonophagocytic assay to assess neutrophil killing of S. pneumoniae in vitro to complement work previously done in mice models. Through this project, I am interested in studying the function and age-associated dysfunction of neutrophils and their interaction with S. pneumoniae, as these findings can help guide vaccines, adjuvants, and treatments of the rising threat of drug-resistant pneumococcal infection in the elderly.
