Research/Areas of Interest

The Burgess lab seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying neuromuscular and neuordevelopmental disorders. We are particularly focused on inherited peripheral neuropathies (Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease) and childhood motor neuron diseases. Our improved understanding of these disease mechanisms has led to both gene therapy and pharmacological treatment strategies that we are testing in preclinical studies using mouse models. Work in the Burgess lab includes genetics, molecular biology, physiology and -omics approaches in both mouse models and engineered human induced pluripotent stem cell models of these diseases.
