Research/Areas of Interest
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive memory loss and cognitive impairment. The pathological hallmarks include extracellular plaques composed of amyloid beta and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated tau. Recent genome-wide association studies have identified >20 susceptibility genes implicating the immune system, lipid metabolism, and synaptic function in AD. I am investigating the association of three prominent gene variants and their contribution to late-onset AD. I aim to uncover the interaction between these risk variants in the major CNS cell types of the brain via human iPSC differentiated into neurons, microglia, and astrocytes.
