Four students are recognized as Dean's Fellows each year. This award recognizes outstanding achievement in research and scholarship during a student's first two years at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
The award provides one year of stipend support for the student. At the completion of the fellowship year, each student also receives a $500 prize to be used in support some aspect of his or her education.
GSBS students who are enrolled in a PhD or MD/PhD program and are completing their second year of graduate work are eligible for the award.
Nominations are solicited in July for the coming academic year.
Each Program Director may submit two nominations each year. A nomination packet must include the following documents:
- A letter from the Program Director identifying the student's qualifications and describing the significance of the student's research (three pages or less)
- Copies of the student's thesis committee reports
- A copy of the qualifying examination evaluation (if available)
- A statement prepared by the student describing research goals and the potential significance of the research (one page)
An ad hoc committee reviews each nomination packet and the transcript of each nominee. The committee recommends the recipients to the Dean.
