Health Insurance Requirements

Students at a poster fair

Matriculated students at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences are required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Tufts University Health Sciences Schools to obtain health insurance.

Tufts University offers all Health Sciences students a comprehensive health insurance plan that meets the State and University requirements.

Students may either enroll in the health insurance plan offered by Tufts University or maintain private coverage that meets or exceeds the minimum State requirements. Visit the Student Advisory and Health Office (SAHA) for more information about the current insurance plan offered by Tufts as well as information to determine if your coverage meets the minimum state requirements see section 8.05 of the Student Health Insurance Program Regulation (SHIP).

Students who plan to enroll in private coverage should be aware that the enrollment process can take several weeks or months. Private insurance coverage must be effective by the student's first day of orientation at Tufts to waive the student plan.

Admitted students will be sent information regarding health insurance requirements, plan details, and the deadline date to enroll or waive the school plan.

Students who are not in compliance with the requirements will not be allowed to register or attend classes.

If you have questions about this policy, please contact Cynthia Linton, Student Health Administrator.
