Graduate Student Council
The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Graduate Student Council (GSC) is the voice of the graduate students of our school. The Council is composed of two representatives from each graduate program, plus an MD/PhD program representative. The committee meets monthly to addresses academic and student life issues and to plan social and community service events.
The GSC sponsors various events, including Career Seminars, which features speakers with a wide range of careers in the sciences. This series brings scientists working at the cutting edge of discovery to our campus. They also organize a wide range of community service activities, including support of Rosie's Place, a shelter for homeless women; a school supply drive for Horizons for Homeless Children; Adopt A Platoon; Gap Junction, a middle school teaching opportunity; and an annual blood drive.
The GSC arranges social events to increase school spirit. Annually, they host a new student scavenger hunt, plan a Halloween party, sell candy and flowers for Valentine's day, and organize a Spring social event. In addition, they coordinate the GSC Relays, which brings the entire school together in a friendly athletic competition and picnic. They sell raffle tickets at the Relays to raise money for the GSC Student Enrichment Fund, which supports student attendance at national and international scientific meetings.
