Jonathan J. Schimmel, PhD Fellowship

The Jonathan J. Schimmel, PhD, Fellowship Fund was established in 2021 by Jonathan J. Schimmel. The award supports PhD students who aspire to augment their scientific training with general business management and operational competencies, through training or internships in management, accounting, biomedical manufacturing, intellectual property law, and other related areas of organizational leadership.

Schimmel Fellows may use the funding for coursework, conference participation, or any activity which enhances their competence in business management or operations.

Award Amount

Grants of up to $2500 are available.

Award Eligibility

GSBS PhD and MD/PhD students interested in pursuing a career in industry are eligible to apply for the Schimmel Fellowship. GSBS students initiate the application process by applying for this award.

The application should include the applicant's name, graduate program, year at GSBS, and the documents listed below.

  • CV, including publications
  • A Personal Statement that explains their motivation for applying for the Schimmel Fellowship. The statement should cover any prior relevant experience; the student’s career goals, including interest in industry, management, or leadership; and how the Schimmel grant will contribute to these goals.
  • A budget outlining how the Schimmel funds will be spent.

These materials should be submitted via the Schimmel Fellowship online form.

Application Deadline

The application deadline is in February of each academic year.
