Callan O'Connor

What influenced your decision to pursue biomedical research?

My research fellowship at CDC in Atlanta where I realized the breadth of chemical exposure to Americans and my desire to find the subsequent DNA response lead me to pursue a PhD.

How is the environment at GSBS helping you achieve your professional goals?

GSBS provides the resources and expertise to study any topic that I want, as well as prepare me for my career after graduation.

What type of positions are you considering after graduation?

Post-docs, science policy, industry, venture capitalism. I am not sure yet.

Why did you choose GSBS over other graduate schools?

The potential to combine the stellar Tufts reputation in Boston with the powerhouse research facility of The Jackson Laboratory were key to my choice.

I love to explore Acadia National Park and search for new spots to fish!

What’s your favorite thing about being in the area (Boston or Bar Harbor depending on where you are studying) and why?

I love being so close to the ocean. Who wouldn't enjoy an ocean view while doing lab work?

What is your favorite local restaurant?

Island Geddy's, underneath the iconic Bar Harbor moose.
