Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

Elizabeth Moss

What influenced your decision to pursue biomedical research?

I decided to pursue a combined MD/PhD because I want to be able to take the problems I see in patient care and find solutions in the laboratory.

How is the environment at GSBS helping you achieve your professional goals?

The GSBS environment is very supportive and collaborative, which has been great in structuring the way I think about academic science and its links with clinical medicine. The MD/PhD program in particular does a good job of mixing the two degrees, taking the best elements of each path and combining them into a cohesive program, which makes it easy to envision my future career as a physician-scientist.

What type of positions are you considering after graduation?

After graduation I will do residency training (specialty TBD!) and pursue a career in clinical medicine combined with research.

Why did you choose GSBS over other graduate schools?

The people here were so warm and friendly, I knew instantly that this was a place I could happily spend 8 years. Plus, I love Boston and probably never want to leave.

What's your favorite way to relax after classes?

Going for long runs on the Esplanade, drinking good beer, watching Game of Thrones

What's your favorite thing about being in Boston and why?

Exploring all the different neighborhoods – each one has a different character, restaurants, and green spaces that make it unique and interesting.

What is your favorite Boston restaurant?

Lord Hobo in Cambridge
