My research involves the role of the Vesicular Nucleotide Transporter (VNUT) in modulating the release of neuronal dopamine by insulin receptors in murine astrocytes. This mechanism provides a potential mechanistic link between central insulin receptors and the onset and progression of depression in patients with type-2 diabetes as it appears to be driving defects in monoamine neurotransmission in inducible knockouts of insulin receptors in astrocytes.
