Associate Dean's Message - November 9, 2020

These are stressful times! Be sure to take care of yourself and learn more about the resources available.
med ed entrance

Last week I started an e-mail stating “it has been one of those weeks!”. Actually, it has been one of those semesters or years. I think all students, faculty and staff can agree that this semester has been like no other. Everything we each do to react and respond to COVID, racial inequity and the current political climate is taking a toll.

To help our students through this time, faculty and staff will work to ease student stress where possible and provide support as necessary. In a meeting last week with program directors, we discussed the expectations we have for students around lab work, research progress and TAC meetings. We discussed that faculty should take reduced lab time and other student stressors into consideration in their evaluation of student progress and setting lab work/experiment expectations. Please contact me if you feel these considerations are not taking place or have questions regarding your lab situation.

However these issues are affecting you, we’re here to offer support and resources. As I have mentioned previously, feel free to contact me at daniel.volchok@tufts.edu or one of these confidential resources if you wish to discuss how you are feeling or are looking for support.

Our goal is the growth and success of each student scientifically, professionally and personally. Let us know how we can help and how we may be hindering that growth.
