Associate Dean's Message - June 16, 2020
As I reflect on the past weeks, I am struck by the confluence of the events we are living through. We are slowly reopening our labs and planning for the start of the Fall semester. Local businesses are starting to reopen and we are seeing a re-birth in the city, yet there are still concerns about further spread of COVID-19. At the same time, we are facing the realities of racial injustice and inequities across the country, the state and within our own school community, including some protests and actions very close to campus.
There have been numerous e-mails, announcements, town halls and time for reflection by the University and the Medical School. We have been asked, what is GSBS doing? As you may recall, we have an annual Community Meeting each June. We are planning this year’s for June 23 and will focus the meeting on this issue. An invitation and details regarding the meeting will be sent out shortly. In the meantime, I encourage everyone to take some time for self-reflection and to consider what they can do individually to make our community a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for BIPOC students, faculty, staff and others.
