2020 Industry Internships Announced
The Sackler School is excited to announce a new Industry Internship opportunity. These internships are part of Sackler’s commitment to career-driven graduate education and are open to all Sackler PhD candidates during their graduate career. We are in the midst of a biomedical revolution; the most exciting developments will come not only from academia, but from biotech, pharma, and entrepreneurship. Many of you will pursue careers in non-academic paths, utilizing your research skills beyond the academy to impact industry and policy to benefit society at large.
The internship program is an opportunity for you to think about your career opportunities, experience a corporate environment, and build a network within industry. In the summer of 2018, we piloted the program with a single student, whose internship at Flagship Pioneer ultimately resulted in a job offer. She now works to recruit other Sackler students to her company. Internships will be three-month paid opportunities typically in the summer but in special circumstances where the internship aligns with the thesis project, 6-month internships are possible. Participating students will take a leave of absence from their studies for the duration of the internship and requires permission of the lab mentor. We are looking for approximately five students to participate in this program during the 2020/2021 academic year. Interested students should collaborate with their research mentor to create a one- or two-page dossier containing a brief description of their background; their career goals; their current research; and their plan for continuing their thesis work during the internship period. These dossiers will then be sent out to the companies to match students with interviews for internship opportunities. Please note, that interviews do not guarantee an internship.
Interested students should submit dossiers to Alexandra Israel by January 2, 2020.
Specific instructions for completing the dossiers, as well as more information about the internship program, can be found in the Internship Information and Application document.
Questions about the internship program can be directed to Dean Jay.
