Celebrating the Dr. Jane Murphy Gaughan Professorship and Joyce Sackey, MD, the first to hold this professorship.
Jaharis Building in the spring

Dear Sackler Community,

Last Wednesday, I had the honor to attend the lecture and dinner celebrating the establishment of the Dr. Jane Murphy Gaughan Professorship and the installation of Associate Provost Joyce Sackey MD as its first recipient. Joyce is our chief diversity officer, a member of our dean’s team, an African American woman originally from Ghana, MD, professor and head of Global Medicine here (a rare bird indeed). She works tirelessly with her team toward inclusive excellence at Tufts. She has recently hired Damian Archer, MD as assistant dean for diversity for TUSM (and Sackler) and has begun a search for an Associate Director for Diversity and Inclusion Education for our campus. The celebration was a great event filled an outpouring of love from family, colleagues and friends and I humbly count myself amongst the latter two. The Gaughan chair was established to promote diversity and it is uncommon to have philanthropy for this important mission. It is such a lovely tribute aligned to the values of Dr. Gaughan and her family. We are very fortunate to have this gift and to have Joyce to make our school a better place.
