Associate Dean's Message - April 8, 2019
Dear Sackler Community,
I have written a number of times about the mental health needs of graduate students and PhD students in particular. As a recent study reported, 41% of students in the biological and physical sciences and engineering showed moderate to severe anxiety and 39% moderate to severe depression, both of which are more than six times the prevalence of the general population. One important takeaway from this study is that graduate students need to be aware that they are not alone in their anxiety or depression and we encourage you to seek out assistance. As we announced last week, we have expanded our mental health support services with a 24 hour/7 day service available to all students regardless of their location as well as increased Boston-based face-to-face counseling. I hope that you will take advantage of these services should you need them and please let me know if you have any questions.
