Dear GSBS,

Throughout my career in higher education, family and friends frequently ask if I get the summer off, or if things slow down. My response has always been NO! The summer when we prepare for the start of a new year, and this summer is no different. As we hit the middle of August, our plans for the Fall are being finalized. While more details will be announced shortly, I want to let you know of two exciting programs coming up.

Orientation – As always, our new students will begin on September 1. Rather than the one-day, in-person orientation, orientation will be a combination of an in-person day on September 6 and some online activities from September 1 – 9. We will have out traditional welcome reception the afternoon of September 6. I hope everyone is able to attend and meet our new students.

Professional Development Program – We are expanding our career services into a professional development program designed to provide information and guidance for all students as they grow as scientists and prepare for their next steps. The program will consist of a series of Professional Development Seminars presented in a hybrid mode by two external experts, as well one-on-one career coaching sessions.

I hope everyone is able to enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer, and I hope to see you for these exciting programs.
