Research synopsis:

Understanding network dynamics underlying the generation of complex behaviors is central to furthering modern therapeutics for psychopathology. Of particular interest to me is the inception of network synchrony and rhythmicity (oscillations), within and between brain regions, to facilitate emotionally salient behaviors, with an emphasis on the basolateral amygdala. My work in the Maguire lab attempts to uncover the mechanisms by which these oscillations are generated. To this end, my work utilizes contemporary tools and techniques for cell-type specific modulation and recording of network activity, including in vivo and ex vivo electrophysiology in combination with optogenetics and in vivo imaging.
