Research synopsis:

Yersinia pseudotuberculosis is a Gram-negative enteric bacterial pathogen that encounters and overcomes a variety of host defenses and host cell types in order to establish systemic infection. This includes breaching the epithelial barrier in the intestine and protecting itself from killing by neutrophils, which swarm the bacteria as it grows within tissues. I am studying the critical events and factors involved in these processes using multi-cell type based systems involving intestinal enteroids and neutrophil-derived myeloid progenitor cells.
