Research synopsis:

I investigate molecular pathways that regulate egg-induced hepatic inflammation in schistosomiasis, the second deadliest human parasitic disease in the world after malaria. Using murine models of severe and mild immunopathology, I am currently focusing on the role of C-type lectins, in particular CD209a, the mouse homologue of DC-SIGN, as well as on inflammasomes and type I interferons in modulating dendritic cell IL-1β production and activation of pathogenic Th17 cells that orchestrate the development of severe disease. My goal is to identify novel immunological strategies for prevention and amelioration of schistosomiasis and other Th17 cell-mediated diseases.
