Research synopsis:

I direct the Drosophila laboratory at Tufts Medical Center. This research group is focused on expediting the characterization of genes relevant to human pathophysiology. Recently I have demonstrated that mutations in a splicing factor that is conserved from Drosophila to humans result in pronounced dystrophic changes in the fly muscles. Using both Drosophila and mammalian model systems the current focus is studying this new regulatory pathway as a means to understand the mechanisms underlying muscle disorders in humans.
