Research synopsis:

My research focuses on developing novel assays to investigate the handling of glutamate by astrocytes, their clearance of extracellular glutamate after activity, including the spatial specificity of the uptake, and the internal handling of the glutamate after reuptake. I plan to investigate how these properties change in models of focal epilepsy and the role of astrocytes in prolonging the epileptiform events.
