Research synopsis:

I employ intestine specific knockout animal models to investigate the relationship between intestinal lipid metabolism and whole body energy expenditure. Using the inducible ERT2-villin CRE transgene in mice floxed for our gene of interest we are able to control both the time and location of expression of our target gene. This genetic model, in combination with other molecular biology techniques, allows us to investigate how intestinal genes contribute to metabolism of dietary lipid and how alterations in the expression of these targets affects whole body energy homeostasis.
