Research synopsis:

I am studying inflammatory mechanisms involved in the response against Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease. While a strong immune response helps to control the pathogen burden during early infection, a fine control of this response is required over time to avoid detrimental effects due to over-inflammation. My work focuses on understanding the balance between acute and chronic inflammation. Such understanding will ultimately lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies.
