Research synopsis:

We use genetic and molecular biological approaches to study the pathogenicity, transmission, and host response to the two human pathogens Vibrio cholerae and Streptococcus pneumoniae. We also study bacteriophages that kill V. cholerae. Bacterial and bacteriophage genes that play roles in these processes are being identified and characterized. The information obtained will positively impact the development of vaccines, antibiotics, and bacteriophage therapies designed to prevent or treat infections.
