CMDB students select from three concentrations - Chemical & Structural Biology, Cell & Developmental Biology and Cancer Biology.
The CMDB and Genetics programs have merged to form the Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology (GMCB) program. Interested applicants should apply to GMCB.
Our faculty of nearly 100 are drawn from the schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging. Faculty based in the School of Engineering and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine as well as at the MaineHealth Institute for Research are also active participants.

All CMDB students must successfully complete a qualifying exam that has written and oral components
A graduate seminar, a journal club and student research reports add to student training in CMDB.
Our students come from across the US and the world and are pursuing a wide range of thesis projects.
Publication of research is a key part of training and our students publish their work in excellent journals.
About 95% of our students complete an advanced degree and go on to pursue a wide range of careers.
